The easiest way to keep IE from starting

What is IE Replacement Patch?

IE Replacement Patch (IERP) is a way of replacing Internet Explorer with a more stable, more secure web browser, such as the popular Firefox in a version of Windows that may become unusable if IE is actually uninstalled. Some examples of these versions of Windows are those that are Windows NT based (e.g. Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008. In these versions of Windows, Microsoft has a better grip on forcing you to use Internet Explorer, than would a version of Windows classic (e.g. Windows 9x, and ME) where it is possible to uninstall Internet Explorer completely. This patch is a way to re-route requests to Internet Explorer to the browser of your choice. While Firefox is currently the only browser that is compatible with this patch, other patches are in development. IE Replacement Patches are only availible on Windows NT(R)-Based versions of Windows, because of its nature. Check 'The How' for more information.

Vista Compatibility

Startfox 9.13, the latest build is 100% Vista compatible due to a new part of AutoConfig1:

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

if exist %systemdrive%\Users\ copy c:\progra~1\AppomattoxSoft\Startfox\bin\autoconfig1\nt6\*.* c:\progra~1\AppomattoxSoft\Startfox\opt\menu
if exist %systemdrive%\Users\ regedit /s c:\progra~1\AppomattoxSoft\Startfox\bin\autoconfig1\nt6\e.reg
if exist %systemdrive%\Docume~1\ copy c:\progra~1\AppomattoxSoft\Startfox\bin\autoconfig1\nt5\*.* c:\progra~1\AppomattoxSoft\Startfox\opt\menu
if exist %systemdrive%\Docume~1\ regedit /s c:\progra~1\AppomattoxSoft\Startfox\bin\autoconfig1\nt5\e.reg

________________________________________________________________________________________________

This basically says "if the folder Users exists, you are using Vista, therefore, implement the Vista patch.

It is built right in. No addendum patch or anything.

Acid2 Test

Acid2 is a W3C test for web standard compatibility. Firefox 2, being that web standard compatibility was not scheduled for Firefox until version 3, does not pass this test, however Firefox 3 does.

The test can be found here:

http://www.webstandards.org/files/acid2/test.html

The Acid3 Test, however, I am afraid Firefox does not yet pass. However, I have seen no browser yet that can.

Acid3 is located here: http://acid3.acidtests.org/
